COVID-19: Govt issues helpline to facilitate inter-state migrant labourers reaching J&K-Punjab border

Jammu, Mar 29Jammu and Kashmir Government on Sunday issued helpline numbers to facilitate inter-state migrant labourers who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir prior lockdown announced in view of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.According to the Labour Commissioner J&K, the migrant labourers can contact the following helpline numbers for assistance and help: Showkat Shafi, Inspector, 8899546373 and Ansar Ahmad, Inspector, 7006286174 (for Kashmir Division) Shivika Sharma, Labour Officer, 9149691329 and Stander Pal Singh, Section officer, 7051986422 (for Jammu Division).The aforementioned officers shall be available round-the-clock for help and assistance.Hundreds of migrant labourers have stuck on J&K-Punjab border from where they are being shifted to quarantine centres established at various locations.”Many people from outside states are returning to their native places in parts of Jammu and Kashmir but they have to undergo quarantine period of 14 days in Kathua,” a senior official here said.”Already 600 to 700 people are sent to different quarantine centres in Kathua but the number of migrant labourers is rising,” he said and added that 28 quarantine centres are set up in Kathua district and the help of Samba District Administration is also sought to accomodate these migrant labourers.
