International Women’s Day was celebrated with great zeal & enthusiasm by students of Govt Upper Primary School, Muqaam in Kupwara District. Apart from the local villagers, a total of seven Teachers and 88 Students participated in the function organised under aegis of Indian Army in Kupwara.
The event commenced with a speech by Mr Javid Iqbal Sheikh , Headmaster of the school wherein he highlighted the role, contribution and importance of women in society and the rationale for celebrating Women’s Day. The event progressed with mesmerizing singing performances by girls of the school. The most soothing and appreciated amongst them was the performance of three girls who sang “Sare Jahaan Se Acha” which brought the whole environment to a standstill.
The Headmaster appreciated the gesture by Indian Army of organizing this event as this would surely in the long run motivate other girls also to do well. 14 girls were felicitated for excellent performance in the Academics and Sports. The prize winners included Miss Kulsooma and Miss Insha who have topped in class 12th and 10th respectively.
The event culminated with the National Anthem which was sung by all the students of the school. The children were thrilled as this was the first time International Women’s Day was celebrated in their school in Muqaam village, Kupwara under the aegis of Indian Army
