Baramulla, 07 May: A 29-year-old, mother of two kids is battling for her life at a Srinagar hospital with more than 90 percent head injuries after being beaten allegedly by her in-laws in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The woman has suffered brain damage and is being treated at SKIMS hospital. Married for over 5 years, she is the mother of two small kids.

Ishtiyaq Ahmad, brother of the victim said she has faced domestic violence all through but on Tuesday (Eid day) her husband and in-laws crossed all limits and started beating her brutally.

“My sister who hailed from Warapora, Pattan, was married to Tariq Ahmad Mir. Soon after their marriage, her husband started beating her. On Tuesday, there was some argument. Her husband and her in-laws brutally started beating her, and in the meantime, she suffered serious head injuries,” he said.

“Her head was broken, which indicates that she was brutally beaten by her husband, and in-laws,” he said.

The victim was initially referred to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri, wherefrom she was shifted to SKIMS Soura.

Doctors at SKIMS said the victim’s condition is critical. “We can’t say anything as of now. What i can say as of now is that the patient is not well,” said a doctor, who wished anonymity.

He said that the victim has severe injuries on head, arms, and other parts of the body.

Following the incident, people in Warpora, Pattan village held nocturnal protests and demanded strict action against the culprits. “The residents hit the road this afternoon as well and urged police as well as district administration to carry out a thorough probe into the incident,” a local source told Good Morning Kashmir.

The protesting locals alleged that the husband of the woman, wanted to marry second time. “This might be the reason that he took this inhuman step,” they added.

Police, meanwhile, have taken up investigation into the case and filed a case under section 498-A, 307 (IPC). “We are questioning her in-laws. Her husband has been brought to the police station and he is being questioned as well,” the police official said.

“Further proceedings are underway,” police said.(GMK)
