Today on 4 June. a landmark event of Elders Parliament was held at Pattan Degree College in Pattan, district Baramulla.
A first of its kind event gathered huge attention and saw an audience of around 100 people where the elders from various spheres of our society shared and relived their beautiful experiences of Kashmir of 1980s
The speakers shared their wisdom and discussed the role & responsibilities of elders in our society. They also spoke about the responsibility of grandparents to guide their children, grandchildren on correct path, the importance of education in one life and why it is very important for the grand parents or the elders of the society to come forward now and take the centre stage of the Kashmir society and how they can bring the hope and optimism for the youth of today who have not seen the true essence of Kashmiriyat which was in abundance in 1980s
The elders told the audience about the harmonious society which existed in era of 80s, the famous Sufi culture where people of all faiths used to live together and the rich education culture of Kashmir. It was a very open discussion followed by an interactive questions and answers session in which audience participated vigorously. The parliament saw discussions on the growing trend of radicalizing the youth using wrong interpretations of Islam & How grandparents and elders can provide course correction to our youth and children by sharing their experiences and stories from the glorious past of Kashmir.
A young man in his late 20s said “it was an eye opener for me personally when I heard that when our grandparents were young, how was their lives, how they used to go to colleges with friends in a free environment and used to watch cinemas, how they used to walk freely in streets late nights and used to go shopping or picnics with their families.”
The Parliament saw hundreds of audience and the officials from civil administration were also present who addressed the gathering and asked the youth to learn from the experiences & wisdom of our elders. The event was organised by 29 Rashtriya Rifles in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir save youth save future NGO. The event being one of its kind was a great learning experience for all people, students, youth, Girls and Boys.
