World Population fortnight observed across Budgam

BUDGAM, JULY 12: On the eve of World Population Day, a function was organised at AMT School Budgam to create awareness of issues related to the rising population and their consequences on the environment among masses.

ADDC Budgam, Akramullah Tak; CMO Budgam, Dr Tajamul Hussain Khan; ADMO AYUSH, DIO Budgam, District Programme Coordinator NCD, RMO District Hospital, Principal AMT School and other health care workers participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz Mirza, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Budgam in his message on this day conveyed that since the middle of the 20th century, the world has experienced unprecedented population growth and this trend will have far reaching  implications for generations to come.

After the inaugural comments by BMO headquarters Dr A. G. Raina, the CMO Budgam Dr Tajamul put light on the importance of the day.

Dr Tajamul said that the recent past has witnessed enormous changes in fertility rates and life expectancy. He elaborated that the world is seeing a high level of urbanization and accelerating migration. He said that these megatrends have far reaching implications. They affect economic development, employment, income distribution, poverty and solid protection.

He elaborated that this day is celebrated to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilise political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. He applauded the tireless efforts of DGHFW, Dr Saleem u Rehman in mobilising and awaring the masses over the issue and providing guidance.

Later, ADDC Budgam Akramullah Tak flagged-off the awareness rally in which FMPHWS, ASHA Workers, NGOs, Netizens took part.
