GCW Udhampur hosts Portrait making & debate competitions on ‘Role of freedom Fighters in Indian Freedom struggle’

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 09:-  Heritage Club and Department of History, in collaboration with Department of Sociology of Government College for Women Udhampur, today organized portrait making and debate competition on the theme ‘’Role of freedom fighters in India’s freedom struggle’’ under the series of events being organized under HAR GHAR TIRANGA CAMPAIGN.

Prof. Dr. Monika Sharma was the chief guest.

In her address, Dr. Monika Sharma hailed the sacrifices of the  Freedom Struggle heroes which won India Independence from the foreign rulers. “If we are living in a free and independent India it is possible only because of the supreme sacrifices   made by our freedom fighters” she said.

Dr. Monika applauded Heritage club and Department of History and Sociology for organizing the events helpful in promoting the sense of patriotism and love for one’s country.

The event was organized by HOD Sociology Dr. Usha Sharma who managed all requisitions in making the event successful.

Earlier, in his welcome address, convener Heritage club, Prof Yash Paul [HOD History] highlighted the vision of Portrait making competition and informed the participants that the freedom fighters have contributed immensely in India’s freedom struggle irrespective of caste, creed, colour, sex and region.      “Therefore we all must follow the footprints of our freedom fighters and make this nation a better place to live in” he added.

Around 120 volunteer students of the College participated in the programme.

Sehar Shakeel, Ridhima, Nitika Sharma and Radhika Sharma, Taniya Dogra and Payal secured first, second, third positions respectively in portrait making and debate competition.

The competition was judged by Dr. Arun Gupat[librarian]  Pooja Bharti [Geography] and Dr Sanjay Kumar Kalotra [Music]. All the judges were fair and impartial in their judgment. Dr. Mool Raj, Associate professor of Urdu was special Guest on this occasion.

The proceeding of the programme was conducted by Dr. Usha Sharma [HOD Sociology] who also presented the formal vote of thanks.

The other faculty members present on this occasion were Prof. Ashok Kumar [ HOD Math], Arun Gupta [ Librarian], Dr. Meena Gupta [AP English] Mr. Sanjeev Upadhyaya {HOD Sanskrit}, Mr. Rajinder Singh [HOD Punjabi] and Dr.Sanjay Kumar [A.P Music].
