Why police is reluctant in registering FIR against accused, Asks protesting family
A family from Chanapora locality of Srinagar Friday held a protest here in Press Enclave demanding registration of an FIR against the accused who according to them ‘murdered’ an elderly man over a petty issue. People hailing from Mini Colony Chanapora emerged in Srinagar’s media hub, carrying placards said that they fail to understand why police is reluctant in filing an FIR against the man who ‘murdered’ a 65 year old man Abdul Majeed Baqal.

Talking to news agency Sadaf Baqal, the daughter of the victim said that one Waseem Ahmed alias Jimmy assaulted her father badly and he sustained grievous injuries resulting in his death after a few days in the hospital. *“It was an immaterial issue. My elderly father was cleaning the gate of the house, while sprinkling water on the gate, some droplets touched a pedestrian (girl), who is our neighbor. She accused my father of ruining her dress and called his brother Wasim alias Jimmy. Jimmy, without listening to the version of my father and ignoring apologies from me and my father, assaulted him badly. My father fell on the ground and was dying with pain. I was requesting Jimmy with folded hands to let him go but drunk with pride, he didn’t stop and continued to hit him. When we cried, some neighbours intervened and we shifted him (my father) to hospital. After a couple of days, he died,”* she said.

The daughter of the victim said that police have arrested the accused but no FIR has been lodged yet.

“The accused family wants us to negotiate with them but we don’t want any negotiation. We want justice and punishment to the accused,” she said. The protesting family members while seeking the intervention of Police Chief Dilbagh Singh and IGP Vijay Kumar appealed them to get a murder case registered against the accused and punish the family as well which intimidates those who talk or highlight this murder.
