Global Strategic Policy Foundation Pune (GSPFP) organised a seminar on “Women Empowerment In My Naya Kashmir” in Town Hall Kupwara, where more than 500 women participated.

Dr Anant Bhagwat was the chief guest at the seminar.

In his address, Dr Bhagwat said that for a progressive society, it is important to empower women. But unfortunately, this has not been done to the extent that was required.

Dr Bhagwat highlighted that Kupwara is a border district, which has faced major damage in the past 30 years of disturbance. Earlier, Kupwara was used as a doormat for militancy. Now, the district is suffering again because Pakistan is using it for drug trafficking.

Dr Bhagwat stated that a mother can play a very significant role in checking drug menace by keeping a close eye on her children and their activities.

*Bridge Between People And Power Centres*

Talking to media persons, Dr Anant Bhagwat said he was here to know the problems of the people of this district. He informed the people that GSPFP is working as a bridge between the people and the power centers.

Dr Bhagwat said the role of GSPFP is to make them understand the work that is being done at the grassroots level to benefit the common people. He said such type of work was lacking before abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.

Firdous Baba, the state chief of GSPFP, was the guest of honour.

G M Mir, the Editor of KShotZ, said in his address that there was need to conduct more such programmes in various far-flung areas. He said these programmes were needed to get connected with people.

He said they are thankful to LG Manoj Sinha for posting dynamic officers in this border district. He said these dynamic officers were able to look into the problems of the people and improve their lives.

Giving an example of DC Kupwara, Mir said officers like DC Kupwara were working tirelessly to ensure people did not face any issues of electricity, water and food during the coming winter months.

*’Zimadari’ For Better Education*

Mir shared with the people the initiatives taken by DC Kupwara. He said that DC Kupwara has started two IAS coaching centers—one in Kupwara and the second one in Handwara. This has happened for the first time in the district.

Besides starting the coaching centers for IAS aspirants, DC Kupwara has also made an attempt to provide better education to school students. As part of this project, he has started a new initiative called “Zimadari” .

The new project, “Zimadar”, is aimed at entailing the teachers to work as responsible community members, so that they can provide holistic education not only to the students but also to society. This will ensure that the schools have better educational infrastructure and are able to retain students in the border district.
