Director Handicrafts Jammu inaugurates Karkhandar Unit for Kashmiri Migrant artisans at Muthi

JAMMU, OCTOBER 25: Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated Karkhandar Unit at Gole Quarter, Muthi Camp Jammu. He was accompanied by the Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Jammu, Joginder Mangol and other officials of the Handicrafts & Handloom department.

On the occasion, a pledge taking ceremony to promote Khadi and other local handmade products was held and Artisan Registration Cards were distributed among the women artisans belonging to the Kashmiri Migrant Community.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that the Department is working and will continue to work for the upliftment of the artisan and weaver community by providing skill training to unemployed youth of the Jammu region in various crafts through its training centres. The Department also provides for the handholding of these trained artisans and weavers by getting them registered with the department for availing various benefits being provided by the Government through different schemes viz. Credit Card Scheme for Artisans & weavers, PM Weavers’ MUDRA Scheme, Registration of Cooperatives, Karkhandar scheme etc. He appreciated the products made by the trainees under the Master Trainer of the Karkhandar Unit, Kirni Pandita.

Trainees of the Karkhandar unit and the other residents of the area expressed their gratitude towards the department for providing the Kashmiri Migrant Women with the dual opportunity of skill upgradation together with the financial assistance in the form of stipend. The event was attended by about 100 people which included 80 artisans and prominent citizens of the area.
