GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 31: On the eve of celebration of UT Foundation Day, Mega Free Health camp was today organized by District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) Ganderbal in collaboration with Chief Medical Office Ganderbal, DHEW Mission Shakti Ganderbal at Ahat-e-Waqar Senior Citizens Home Wayul Ganderbal for the senior citizens of district.

Almost 150 old age persons from different upper reach areas got benefited with free health check-up and related medicines.

A day-long free medical camp was organized as part of the state’s action plan for senior citizens.

Furthermore, a total of 147 elderly individuals received health checks. A team of medical and paramedical staff provided services to the beneficiaries and conducted general check-ups and on-the-spot baseline tests.

This Mega Health Camp was designed to provide a wide range of free medical services, including general check-ups, eye examinations, and consultations with specialists (RMNCH+A), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and infectious diseases.

This event was open to all elderly members of the community, regardless of their income or insurance status.

On the occasion, Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, Dr Afroza Shah emphasized the importance of caring for elderly parents, a fundamental teaching of Islam that people sometimes forget.

The District Social Welfare Officer Ganderbal, Sahir Majeed highlighted the benefits of the scheme under the Senior Citizens Act 2007. He also urged participants to take full advantage of the schemes and assured them of all possible help.

The camp provided an opportunity for the elderly to learn more about their health and how to manage chronic conditions. It also provided a forum for the elderly to socialize and connect with other members of the community.

At last, Sabeeta Jan District Mission Coordinator DHEW Mission Shakti Ganderbal (Nodal officer for implementing state action plan for senior citizens) highlighted the importance of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 and also shared national helpline for senior citizens with all the participants present there.
