Srinagar records coldest night of the season at minus 4.6°C

Srinagar, Dec 09 : Srinagar on Saturday shivers at minus 4.6°C, marking the coldest night this season and signaling the swift onset of winter. The chill spreads across the Kashmir Valley, ushering in frosty nights and a noticeable drop in temperatures.

An official told that Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a bone-chilling low of minus 4.6 on the latest night, marking a stark contrast to the previous night’s milder minus 2.4.

The official said that Qazigund witnessed a dip in temperatures, settling at minus 2.8, compared to the previous night’s minus 2.4.

Similarly, Pahalgam saw a notable drop to minus 5.0 from the previous night’s minus 4.8, he said.

Kokernag reported a minimum of minus 2.3, down from the previous night’s minus 2.0, he said.

Kupwara experienced a decline in temperatures, reaching a low of minus 3.0, compared to the previous night’s minus 2.5, he said.

Gulmarg, however, reported a consistent low at minus 4.2, mirroring the temperatures from the previous night, which were at minus 3.0, he said.

Even Jammu, known for its relatively warmer climate, experienced a slight decrease in temperatures, recording a minimum of 8.1 compared to the previous night’s 8.6, he said.

Till 10th December, he said weather will remain mainly dry. On 11th December, weather will remain generally cloudy, he said.

From 12th-15th December, weather will remain generally cloudy with light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches, he said. (KS)
