Expired Permits, Validity, Fitness, Insurance, Registration: ARTO Baramulla’s Role Under Scrutiny After Tragic Incident
Baramulla, 13 June: Three individuals lost their lives, and 18 others sustained injuries in a tragic accident when a minibus overturned at Pazalpora area of North Kashmir’s Rafiabad on Thursday.
The incident occurred when a minibus with registration number JK05 6339 overturned, resulting in three fatalities and numerous injuries.
Investigations revealed that the minibus involved in the accident had expired fitness, registration, tax, insurance, validity, and permit.
Shockingly, it was discovered that the minibus had been locked by the ARTO Baramulla due to non-compliance with election duties for the Srinagar parliamentary constituency. Additionally, the vehicle’s route permit had been suspended on May 13, 2024.
This raises questions regarding how the ARTO Baramulla allowed the vehicle to be assigned for election duties despite its expired permits.
The RTO Kashmir stated that the vehicle was not fit for road use according to their records. However, some individuals still operate such vehicles in remote areas. It was revealed that the conductor was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Authorities emphasized the collective responsibility of the RTO, the system, and the Traffic Police in preventing such incidents. Enforcement drives are being conducted, and defaulters will face consequences.
Additionally, there is a call for better coordination between the RTO, district police, and transporters to prevent the operation of vehicles with expired permits.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for public awareness and vigilance, as well as improved enforcement efforts to ensure road safety.[UNK]
