Parts of Dachigam National Park catches fire

Srinagar, Aug 18: A forest fire broke out in parts of Dachigam National Park,home of endangered Kashmir Stag (Hangul),at Harwan in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

An official said that efforts are on to douse the fire.

He said Forest Protection Force and the Wildlife officials are on job while fire tenders were also pressed in service to put out the flames.

The official added that bushfire eruption is a common phenomena in summer season.

The official ruled out any damage to wildlife, including the Hangul, or standing crops, but said the bushfire had blackened some forest area covered by grass, bushes and scattered trees. (KNT)
