Growth in tourism a direct outcome of policy changes and developmental efforts initiated post-2019

New Delhi, 24 July : The tourism sector in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has experienced remarkable growth since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, according to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In response to a question posed by opposition member Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, provided detailed statistics showcasing the surge in tourist visits to the region.

According to the data presented, tourist visits in 2020 were 3.47 million. This number increased significantly in 2021 to 11.31 million, continued to rise in 2022 with 18.86 million visits, and reached 21.12 million in 2023. For the first half of 2024, the number of visitors has already reached 10.84 million.

The Minister noted that this growth in tourism is a direct outcome of the policy changes and developmental efforts initiated by the government post-2019. Efforts to bolster tourism infrastructure, promote the region’s cultural heritage, and ensure security has been pivotal in attracting a large number of visitors. (Daily Spark News)
