Bandipora, November 04: Head Teacher of Primary High School Koli Mohallah on Monday rebutted the alleged corporal punishment of a student that has led to injury of the student.
While reporting about the facts, the teachers said on Monday morning a parent named Reyaz Ahmad lone, visited the school to raise concerns regarding his fourth-grade son’s behavior at home. “ Reyaz Ahmad alleged that his son had been neglecting his studies at home, spending excessive time on mobile devices instead”. Accompanied by a teacher, Irfan Ahmad, he urged the school staff to discipline the child.
Headmaster said he explained to the Parent that corporal punishment is strictly prohibited by school policy and government regulations. However, Reyaz Ahmad was adamant, insisting, “I am his father; you can discipline him as you see fit.” In response, Nisar Ahmad took the child to his office and provided him with a counselling session, encouraging the boy to focus on his studies.
Later, during class work as the child was heading to the bathroom, he reportedly slipped and sustained a minor injury near his eye. School staff promptly provided first aid to address the wound. When questioned by another teacher back in the classroom, the boy explained that he had slipped in the bathroom, confirming the account in front of his classmates.
However, after returning home, a different narrative emerged. The family reported that the child had been physically assaulted by the headmaster, alleging that he had been beaten as a form of punishment.
School officials maintain that the child’s injury was the result of an accidental slip rather than any form of corporal punishment. “It’s obvious that any marks or injuries resulting from punishment would likely appear on the hands or lower body, not near the eye,” a teacher commented. “The location and nature of the injury itself suggest an accident rather than an assault.”
“The school administration is cooperating with any necessary inquiries and remains committed to upholding its policy against corporal punishment,” they said and stated that they will also take action as per law against anyone including the parents who have tried to influence the child and are forced to defame the institution.
