Srinagar: Athletes from the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) Rowing, Water Sports Centre, Nehru Park, were honored today for their remarkable performance at the All India Inter SAI Rowing Championship held at the SAI National Centre of Excellence, Alleppey, Kerala. The felicitation ceremony, led by Mrs. Nusrat Gazala, Divisional Sports Officer, Kashmir, J&K Sports Council, was attended by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, Manager, Water Sports Centre, and other officials.
Medal-winning athletes were presented with flower bouquets and mementos to acknowledge their efforts and remarkable achievements. Additionally, sports kits were distributed among all KISCE Rowing athletes by the officers, further motivating them for future endeavors.
Ms. Zainab Shafi, a promising athlete from District Baramulla, clinched a bronze medal in the Senior Women Singles category (W1X). Meanwhile, Mr. Irtiza Ali and Mr. Muntazir Ali Matoo, both hailing from District Srinagar, secured another bronze in the Junior Men Pair category (JM2). Altogether, 10 athletes from KISCE Rowing, Nehru Park, represented Jammu and Kashmir in this prestigious championship, showcasing exceptional talent and commitment.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Nusrat Gazala lauded the athletes’ achievements, describing them as a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir. She highlighted the resilience and determination displayed by the rowers, especially against competitors from elite SAI institutions across the country. She also praised the efforts of Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar and his team for their dedication to nurturing young talent.
Mrs. Gazala further assured that, under the guidance of the Secretary, J&K Sports Council, more water sports competitions will be organized to promote this discipline. She reiterated the council’s commitment to providing athletes with all necessary resources and support to excel at national and international levels.
