Hathras (UP): Seven people, including three women and a child, were killed and around 13 others injured in a head-on collision between a container and a traveller in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police sources said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He has announced an ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased and financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured.
He directed the district administration officials to immediately reach the hospital and provide proper treatment to the injured. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Police sources said that the incident took place near Jaitpur village on Sikandra Road at 2 PM. “The police reached the spot on receiving the information and took the injured to the district hospital in an ambulance,” they said.
Police sources said that around 20 people and their relatives from village Kumhrai under Kotwali Chandpa were going to see a 60-year-old cancer-stricken elderly resident of village Nagla Imliya in Etah when the mishap occurred. “Near Jaitpur village, the container hit the traveller from the front. The collision was so severe that the traveller overturned several times and fell into a ditch,” they said.
Police sources said that the nearby villagers rushed to the spot and pulled out the injured from the vehicle. “Six people died on the spot, while 14 people were injured. The injured were sent to the district hospital for treatment, where a child also died,” they said.
District Magistrate Rahul Pandey confirmed the death of seven people. He said that six people died on the spot. “A child died in the hospital. 13 people were injured. Six injured have been referred to a higher centre in serious condition. Seven are being treated at the district hospital,” he said.
