Sopore: Fire broke out in the Cherhar forest area of Sopore in Baramulla district on Wednesday evening, damaging Compartment 33 Closure of the forest range.

Officials said that, the teams from the Forest Department and the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), along with local residents, managed to control the flames before they could spread further.

Range Officer Rayees Ahmed, praised the prompt response and teamwork that prevented a major disaster.

Speaking about the incident, Rayeed Ahmad said, “We were informed about the fire at around 5:30 PM, following which the F&ES Department was immediately alerted. Their swift action, along with the support of locals, was crucial in controlling the fire.”
