Kashmir braces as cold wave hits: Sonamarg freezes at -12.5°C, Zojila plunges to -23°C

Srinagar: The Kashmir region, along with parts of Jammu and Ladakh, is experiencing a severe cold wave as temperatures have dropped significantly in various areas.

The freezing conditions have marked some of the coldest nights of the season across the regions.

According to data accessed by the news agency JKNS, in Kashmir, Sonamarg recorded the lowest temperature at a chilling -12.5°C, followed by Gulmarg at -9.6°C and Pahalgam at -9.4°C. Srinagar city experienced a minimum temperature of -2.0°C, while other areas like Kupwara and Pulwama registered -2.5°C and -3.0°C, respectively.

In the Jammu region, Samba recorded a surprising dip to -0.3°C, while Udhampur and Reasi dropped to 0.2°C and 2.9°C, respectively. Jammu city experienced its coldest night of the season at 4.5°C.

Similarly, Ladakh, known for its harsh winters, continued to freeze as Leh recorded -12.4°C, and Kargil followed closely at -12.0°C. Zojila was reported to have reached a staggering -23.0°C.

Notably, the plummeting temperatures have intensified the winter chill across the region, prompting locals to brace for the harsh weather conditions ahead. —(JKNS)
