Qazigund: the nation prepares for the Republic Day celebrations, authorities in Kulgam district have significantly bolstered security measures, including along the crucial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, in an effort to ensure a peaceful and incident-free event.
Under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal (IPS), security forces have intensified their operations. A prominent focus of these measures is the area around the Nayough Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, a key entry point to the Kashmir Valley. A security team, led by Mohammad Ramzan, Incharge of the Police Post Nayough Tunnel, in coordination with the CRPF 163 Battalion, has set up multiple security checkpoints (nakas) in the region.
These checkpoints aim to facilitate comprehensive frisking of individuals and vehicles, enhancing surveillance to prevent any potential threats ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. Authorities are ensuring smooth traffic flow while maintaining tight control over the movement of people in the area.
In addition to the checkpoints, security personnel have been deployed across sensitive areas of the district, coupled with increased patrolling efforts. These proactive measures are aimed at maintaining peace and stability, ensuring the safety of the public during the national festivities.
Local officials have confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to guarantee a secure and safe Republic Day for all attendees. These security measures demonstrate the district’s strong commitment to hosting a peaceful celebration.
