Bhubaneswar: The Indian diaspora has made remarkable contributions to both India and the world in diverse fields, driven by their immense talent, creativity, dedication, commitment, and perseverance, Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said.

From holding political offices and leading organizations to excelling in various fields and walks of life, they have left an indelible mark on global society, the External Affairs Minister stated during the valedictory function of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention held here on Friday.

Jaishankar emphasized that the extraordinary achievements of the Indian diaspora have made India and Indians proud while strengthening the country’s relationships with other nations and communities.

He noted that the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, conferred by President Droupadi Murmu on select members of the Indian diaspora, are a recognition of their exceptional accomplishments.

The Union Minister added that the past few days have provided opportunities to explore various facets of diaspora activities, interests, and aspirations.

He remarked that the overarching theme, “Contributing to a Viksit Bharat,” is highly appropriate. Panels on topics such as youth leadership, migrant skills, sustainable development, Nari Shakti (women’s empowerment), and cultural connections have sparked meaningful discussions.

Jaishankar expressed hope that these conversations and the networking facilitated by the PBD platform have inspired everyone involved.

He highlighted that India is now the fifth-largest economy and is likely to become the third-largest by the end of the decade. “Our contributions and responsibilities are growing by the day. Similarly, our external exposure and commitments are also expanding,” the Union Minister noted.

He explained, “We approach the world with the twin perspectives of ‘India First’ and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family). When India progresses, so does one-sixth of humanity. When we do global good, our people benefit as well.”

Jaishankar further stated, “This is an era of greater interdependence, technology flows, and talent mobility. In many ways, it is the diaspora that will help define our image as a resurgent civilization.”
