Srinagar, Jan 16 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary Ashok Koul on Thursday stated that it is the responsibility of the sub-committee, formed by the J&K government, to review the reservation policy and address any potential injustice faced by Open Merit candidates.

“Chief Minister has already formed a sub-committee. It is their responsibility to identify any injustices. If they find any, it is their duty to recommend corrective measures to the government,” Koul told reporters in Srinagar.

The Union Territory administration, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, implemented a 10% reservation for the Pahari community before the Assembly elections. This change increased the total reserved seats across various categories to 60%, leaving only 40% of seats available for general category candidates.

This triggered unrest among aspirants from Open Merit who have been calling for a review of the new policy.

On December 10, Omar Abdullah government formed a three-member panel to review the reservation policy in jobs and admissions.

The BJP General Secretary said that there is 10 percent reservation for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the Open Merit.

“When I meet them (Open Merit candidates) next time, I will talk to them about it (EWS),” Koul said.

When asked that Congress was asking for caste census, he said “Rahul Gandhi is doing nothing..our constitution is perfect and all castes have been equally honoured by the Baba Sahab Bhimro Ambedkar”.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given constitution guarantee to Other Backward Classes (OBC) which is a big achievement and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is just flaring it for doing nothing else.

Koul also hit out at the National Conference saying the Opposition was doing its work.

“It will take some days to understand to people what they have done and how they have used their (voting) rights,” he said.

BJP today organized a special programme in Srinagar , to honour the unparalleled vision and legacy of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice and equality.
