Patna: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday called upon all political parties to extend their cooperation in the smooth functioning of Parliament and state legislatures.
Birla, while addressing media persons after the end of two-day All India Presiding Officers’ Conference(AIPOC), said that all political parties should extend their support in smooth functioning of parliament and state legislatures.
It was the responsibility of all parties to ensure that their elected representatives could behave properly in running the parliament and state legislatures, in larger interests of the people, he added.
‘A resolution has been adopted during the conference that serious steps should be taken by all parties to ensure smooth functioning of parliament and state legislatures “, the Lok Sabha Speaker said adding that scheduled business of the House should be transacted in spirit of democracy. Use of technology should be made to improve the performance of elected representatives, Birla said.
“All informations regarding proceedings of parliament and state legislatures would be placed on one platform in this year itself”, he said, adding, that all presiding officers had been asked to organise conference to make aware the people about the 75th year of Constitution coming into existence.
Small democratic institutions like panchayati raj institutions should also be place of healthy debate on issues of public interests.
