Jammu: Late Vijayan Kutty G of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been conferred with Shaurya Chakra, posthumously on the occasion of 76th Republic Day.
He was awarded Shaurya Chakra for his gallantry act during his posting with 110 RCC Road Construction Company, 31 BRTF and Project Sampark.
An official comminique said on Thursday, Vijayan Kutty G was born on May 20, 1975 in Kunnattoor Vill, Kollam District at Kerala.
He completed his education upto high School from Kadampanad (Kerala) and got enrolled in the
Border Roads Organisation on October 11, 1995 as a Pioneer. With his hard work and devotion to duty he got promoted to Operator Equipment Machinery (OEM) on March 3, 2005.
During his service he served in varied locations/sector to include Northern, Eastern and Western Command in an extremely remote and hostile locations. He also has the distinction of serving in Bhutan as part of Project Dantak.
On June 15, 2024 at about 1035 hours wheb he was working at the location on Reasi-Arnas-Mahore road, the wheel Loader suddently got out of control and rolled towards the valley.
Unmindful of his safety he attempted to take control of the machine. Despite of all his efforts due to loose ground on the valley side of the road caved and the JCB wheel Loader along with the operator Vijayan Kutty G went down the deep gorge of the valley.
Vijayan kutty G sustained multiple injuries on his head/ other parts of his body and sacrificed his life in the line of duty, tragically on an extremely important road stretch.
He made the supreme sacrifice displaying the indomitable courage in the face of adversity.
For making the supreme sacrifice, displaying exceptional courage and devotion to duty under most challenging conditions, while working on a vital strategic road he was awarded “Shaurya Chakra (Posthumously)” by President Droupadi Murmu on January 26, 2025.
The supreme sacrifice of Late Vijayan Kutty G will motivate generations to come to take on challenging tasks and the nation will remember his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty forever.
