BGSBU to host National Seminar on the Role of Regional Languages in Nation-Building wrt NEP 2020

The Department of English, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), in collaboration with Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, Government of India, is set to host a National Seminar on “The Role of Regional Languages in the Development of the Nation with Respect to NEP 2020.” The seminar is scheduled to be held on February 19,at BGSBU.

Eminent linguist Prof. R.C. Sharma from the Department of Linguistics, University of Delhi, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal stated that the university remains committed to fostering intellectual dialogue and policy-driven discussions that contribute to India’s vision for an inclusive and multilingual educational framework. Prof. Jawaid Iqbal said that this seminar will motivate all faculty members to come up with vibrant academic activities, fostering a culture of intellectual engagement and scholarly contributions, aligning with BGSBU’s vision of academic excellence.

Prof. M.J. Warsi, Dean Academic Affairs, BGSBU, who is the seminar director informed that the seminar will focus on the intrinsic link between language and thought, exploring how language shapes human reasoning and innovation. The discussions will highlight the transformative potential of language in policymaking, education, and governance, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Prof. Warsi further stated that the seminar will also address the challenges posed by linguistic diversity and the importance of inclusive language policies that strike a balance between preserving indigenous languages and ensuring their relevance in a globalized world.

Dr.Mariya Aslam Incharge Head, Department of English and Cordinator of the Seminar said that this event will bring together renowned scholars and language experts to explore the transformative role of regional languages in shaping India’s developmental and educational landscape.

The event will provide a platform for experts, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in meaningful discussions on leveraging linguistic resources for nation-building and fostering inclusive and sustainable development.

The deliberations at this seminar are expected to contribute significantly to ongoing academic and policy discussions on language and national progress.

BGSBU has invited papers in Hindi, English, Urdu, Gogri, Pahari and other Indian languages for the seminar.

Scholars, students, and language enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in this thought-provoking discourse on the role of regional languages in India’s development.
