DC Shopian directed implementation of court order regarding cutting of FRP trees

Shopian, 7 April, 2020:  As a preventive measure to the spread of covid-19, the Hon’ble High Court of J&K and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir passed the direction to cut all Female Russian Poplar trees in the valley. Accordingly the Deputy Commissioner Shopian Chaudhary Muhammad Yasin formed a team of officers of revenue and social forestry corporation to cut all Russian poplar trees in the district on state land or Kahcharie including in private land within 500 metres from village habitation. Deputy Commissioner said that 30 percent of the axing Russian poplar trees in the district has already been completed keeping in view the spreading of Novel Corona virus infection and to keep the environment neat and clean. A team of revenue department and Social forestry corporation ( SFC) Shopian headed by the concerned Tehsildars of all the tehsils of the district have started the cutting of poplar trees in the district immediately after the directions have been passed by the district administration. During the process of cutting of trees in the district, the Tehsildar Shopian Mr Bilal Ahmad said that after receiving the orders of cutting of trees, the concerned took an immediate action on ground in letter and spirit .  The overall process of cutting of trees is supervised by the Deputy commissioner Shopian. The DC said we are going to take this drive to its logical end. However support and cooperation from the locals is needed for its success. He said that the female poplar trees developing pollens are considered as hazardous to human beings as declared by the health department pursuing Honble J&K high court directions.
