SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir showcased its significant advancements in waste management and circular economy practices at the 12th Regional 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific, held in Rajasthan from March 3rd to 5th, 2025.
The Union Territory’s innovative Dal Lake Weed Processing Unit, managed by the Jammu and Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), was a highlight of the forum.
Dignitaries from across the country, including Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, praised Jammu & Kashmir’s initiatives in sustainable waste management.
The Jammu and Kashmir delegation also explored various stalls set up by other states and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), gaining valuable insights into modern technologies such as Waste-to-Wonder and Waste-to-Energy solutions. This engagement provided an excellent opportunity to learn about best practices that could be replicated in Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, Srinagar Smart City Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the CITIIS 2.0 program to implement effective waste management solutions in the city. A UT-level agreement was also established to create a Climate Observatory, aimed at addressing the impacts of climate change.
Jammu and Kashmir’s participation in this forum underscores its steadfast commitment to sustainable urban development and the promotion of circular economy principles, aligning with the broader goals of environmental conservation and resource efficiency.
