Online gambling has become a serious problem in Kashmir, affecting the youth and tearing families apart. With easy access to betting apps, many young people are getting trapped in the false hope of making quick money. Instead, they end up losing their savings, falling into debt, and even resorting to desperate measures to recover their losses.
The consequences of online gambling are visible everywhere students using their tuition fees to bet, daily wage workers risking their hard-earned money, and families struggling with financial crises. Many cases of domestic violence, theft, and even suicides have been linked to gambling addiction.
Apart from personal losses, gambling also harms Kashmir’s economy. The money spent on these platforms does not stay in the region but goes to outside companies, leaving Kashmir poorer. Meanwhile, the government has done little to control this growing problem. While some states like Telangana have banned online gambling, Kashmir’s administration remains silent.
It is time for strict action. The government should ban online gambling platforms, block betting websites, and track illegal transactions. More importantly, awareness campaigns should be launched to educate young people about its dangers.
If the authorities fail to act now, the future of Kashmir’s youth will be at great risk. Online gambling is not just an individual problem it is a social crisis that must be stopped before it destroys more lives.
