Kulgam: A public awareness program was held in Town Yaripora on Tuesday to educate citizens about the newly introduced criminal laws under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act (BNSS), 2023.

As per news agency JKNS, the event was attended by Tehsildar Yaripora Javaid Iqbal, SHO Yaripora Sandeep Sharma, the Principal of Higher Secondary School Yaripora, BMO Yaripora, and Advocate Gowhar Rehman from the Standing Council Court Kulgam, who served as the resource person for the session.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Gowhar Rehman explained the key provisions of the new criminal laws, which replace colonial-era legislation and aim to introduce a more modern and comprehensive legal framework. He highlighted changes such as stricter punishments, increased fines, and the introduction of community service for certain offenses. The laws also place a strong emphasis on protecting vulnerable groups, including women and children.

Officials at the event stressed that such awareness programs are crucial to ensuring that citizens understand their rights and responsibilities under the new legal system. They urged people to stay informed and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to help build a safer and more just society. (JKNS)
