Bhopal: Two young Wushu athletes from Madhya Pradesh brought laurels to the state by clinching gold and silver medals at the Khelo India Junior Women Wushu League held from April 2 to 7 at Defence University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
According to Sarika Gupta, Vishwamitra Awardee and coach of the Indian Wushu team, a total of 10 female players from Madhya Pradesh competed in the national event, which saw participation from 150 selected athletes across the country.
Tanya Jatav secured a gold medal in the Jianshu category. She is an international player and has previously bagged medals at national-level events. Ashmi Bharti won a silver medal in the 56 kg weight category. Ashmi has also earned accolades in international Taekwondo competitions and national Wushu tournaments.
Both athletes have been training under Sarika Gupta for several years at Jabalpur. Tanya is a trainee at Rangbhoomi Stadium, while Ashmi receives coaching from her father, Sandeep Bharti, in Satna district.
Congratulatory messages poured in from NK Tripathi, Rajneesh Saxena, Vikas Chaturvedi, Anami Sharan, Nitesh, Maya Rajak, Ashutosh Mishra (BJP Cell President), Nitesh Burman and others for the players’ impressive performance.
