Srinagar: National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, on Wednesday rebutted the assertions made by former RAW chief A.S. Dulat in his latest book “The Chief Minister and the Spy,” calling them misleading and contradictory.

Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Tanvir Sadiq as per news agency JKNS said that the book contradicts itself as Dulat mentions that the central government waited seven months to observe Farooq Sahib’s response during his detention.

“If he was truly in favour, why did he promote the PAGD after his release?”

He stressed that the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was established following Abdullah’s release and that NC had no role in its disintegration.

Sadiq also criticized Dulat’s remarks on the PDP and its leadership. “The language he used about the PDP is inappropriate. I don’t give much weight to such statements,” he said, adding that Dulat had earlier targeted PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in what appeared to be an effort to stay in the spotlight.

He further accused the opposition of lacking substance in their criticism. “They have nothing to say about the budget or key legislative matters, so they resort to inventing such narratives. We’re focused on more pressing concerns like the amendment bill and reservation issues,” he stated.

Regarding recent comments by Srinagar MP Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi—who claimed he was being marginalized by the party following his support for student protests—Sadiq said such matters would be addressed within the party framework.

He said that Aga Ruhullah is senior member of the NC and NC is very strong and will continue to remain so.

On asking about Sajad Lone’s demand for apology from CM, he said that Sajad Lone was in lap of BJP since 2014 who later abrogated article 370 and if he will seek apology for sitting in lap of BJP, then we can talk about his demand.

Notably, Dulat’s book claims that NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah privately supported the revocation of Article 370, despite publicly opposing it. Sadiq dismissed these claims as inconsistent and aimed at stirring unnecessary controversy.—(JKNS)
