Srinagar, Apr 19(JKNS): As part of the Mehmooda Ali Shah Interdisciplinary Lecture Series, the Department of English at Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road Srinagar on Friday hosted a guest lecture titled “Fashioning the Self: Aims of Education in the Age of AI” by Prof. Mufti Mudasir Farooqi.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mudasir said, as per news agency JKNS said, “In the age of artificial intelligence, education must help learners not just adapt, but shape the future with empathy and integrity.” He stressed that education must move beyond imparting technical skills and become a space for self-reflection and meaningful growth. Referencing philosophers like Alvin Toffler and Allama Iqbal, he highlighted the dangers of losing depth and individuality in a tech-driven age.
Earlier, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq welcomed the guest and remarked, “Contemplation is vital in today’s distracted world, especially in education.” She said such lectures are essential for students’ holistic development. The session was attended by students of the 6th semester (English literature) and college faculty.
Dr. Saba Rouf presented the literary achievements of the guest speaker, followed by his felicitation. The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session. The lecture series is organised in honour of former principal Mehmooda Ali Shah, who served the institution from 1954 to 1974. This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the college. (JKNS)
