Poonch, May 23 (JKNS): In view of the escalating temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, has issued a comprehensive public health advisory urging citizens to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

According to the advisory, residents of Poonch district are advised to stay hydrated, covered, and indoors as much as possible, especially during peak hours from 12 noon to 3 PM.

Drink sufficient water even if not thirsty and use Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) or homemade drinks like lemon water, buttermilk, and fruit juices.

Wear loose, light-coloured cotton garments and use umbrellas or other head coverings when outside. Stay updated through local weather news, and limit outdoor activities to cooler hours mornings and evenings.

Maintain cool indoor environments with curtains and ventilation, and provide supervision for elderly or sick individuals.

Use fans, spray bottles, damp cloths, or eye towels to cool down body temperature. The advisory also highlights several don’ts, Avoid sun exposure between 12 PM and 3 PM, it reads.

Refrain from going barefoot or cooking during peak heat hours. Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks. Do not consume stale or high-protein food in excess.

Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles, as interior temperatures can become dangerously high, it reads.

The CMO stressed the importance of preventive care and public awareness in mitigating health risks during the heatwave. The district administration has urged citizens to adhere to the guidelines and cooperate with health and emergency services. (JKNS)
