Srinagar: A team from the Food Safety Department Srinagar on Thursday carried out an intensive inspection drive across several localities of the city to ensure compliance with proper food storage standards, particularly for high-risk items.

An official from the department told news agency JKNS that the inspection was led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety and accompanied by food safety officers Hakeem Adil Rashid, Khalid Bashir, and Syed Dilpazir. The team, along with a mobile food testing van, visited areas including Sanat Nagar, Bagh-i-Mehtab, Lal Nagar Chanapora, and Housing Colony Chanapora.

“We inspected multiple outlets and sensitized food business operators (FBOs) regarding the risks of exposing packaged water, carbonated drinks, milk, and other dairy products to sunlight,” the official said. “Such exposure can compromise the safety and quality of these products.”

The officer said all FBOs have been directed to store high-risk items under regulated conditions and warned that any violations would attract strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

“Our aim is to protect public health and ensure safe food reaches consumers. Inspections will continue regularly,” the official added. (JKNS)
