Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Wednesday urged the Delhi Police and the Chief Minister of Delhi to initiate a swift and transparent probe into the mysterious death of 30-year-old Kashmiri youth Zubair Ahmed Bhat in the national capital.

According to the statement issued to here news agency JKNS reads, Zubair, a resident of Sehyar Ali Kadal in Srinagar, died under suspicious circumstances in a public park in Delhi on Monday. His body was returned to Srinagar on Tuesday. The Delhi Police said a PCR call was received regarding an unconscious man with a head injury in a park, who was declared dead at a nearby hospital. An inquest and post-mortem have already been conducted.

Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the Association, said in a statement that the incident raises serious concerns. “We urge the Delhi Police to investigate all possible angles, including foul play. The findings must be made public in a time-bound manner,” he said, appealing to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to personally monitor the probe.

He called for the immediate filing of an FIR and said the delay and silence from authorities had only worsened the family’s fears. “The lack of clarity around Zubair’s death is disturbing. A fair and transparent probe is the minimum owed to the deceased and his family,” Khuehami said.

Khuehami also appealed to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to constitute a high-level probe team to investigate the matter.

Ummar Jamal, National President of JKSA, extended condolences to the bereaved family, saying, “We are deeply saddened by Zubair’s untimely demise. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this difficult time.”

The Association said Zubair had travelled to Delhi to receive a guest and reportedly lost contact around 4 PM on Monday. The family was later informed about his death, which they believe occurred under suspicious circumstances. “The family suspects he was assaulted and claims to possess chat screenshots suggesting he was beaten in the area where he was staying,” Jamal said, quoting relatives.

JKSA also pledged full legal and logistical support to the family and said it would follow up the matter with all concerned authorities until justice is delivered. (JKNS)
