Srinagar: In a first-of-its-kind success for Kashmir’s healthcare sector, a 77-year-old woman suffering from a severe brain stroke was revived by a Kashmiri doctor at Medicare Super Speciality Hospital Srinagar, bringing hope to patients who often have to travel outside the Valley for such critical treatment.
Dr. Imtiyaz, an interventional neuroradiologist at the hospital, successfully performed the rare procedure after the woman was admitted in critical condition. The hospital staff acted promptly, preparing the operation theatre within a short span of time as the surgery had to be conducted within the golden hours after the stroke.
Dr. Imtiyaz (MBBS, MD, FRCR), trained in Neurovascular Intervention Radiology from AIIMS New Delhi, had also trained the hospital staff for handling such emergency interventions. He said the patient responded remarkably well and was in stable condition just two days after the procedure.
Speaking to JKNS, Dr. Imtiyaz said, “This successful intervention is a reflection of teamwork, timely action, and increasing capabilities of our local medical infrastructure. The patient is recovering well, and her condition is satisfactory.”
Family members of the patient thanked the medical team and appreciated the timely response which they said played a key role in saving a precious life.
The successful procedure is being seen as a significant achievement in Kashmir’s medical landscape, especially for patients in need of immediate care for neurological emergencies. (JKNS)
