JKSA Issues Helpline for Evacuation Coordination for Kashmiri Students Stranded in Conflict-Hit Iran

Srinagar, Jun 14 (JKNS): Amid rising tensions and military escalation between Iran and Israel, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Saturday issued an urgent appeal and shared helpline numbers for Kashmiri students currently stranded across Iran.

Numerous students have reported hearing air raid sirens, experiencing tremors, and witnessing visible military activity near their areas of residence, raising serious concerns over their safety.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Association, said, “We have been receiving distress messages and calls from Kashmiri students in different parts of Iran, especially in cities impacted by the ongoing conflict. Students are anxious and fearful due to the rapidly deteriorating situation. The Association is in close coordination with the office of the External Affairs Minister and is actively preparing a detailed list of affected students to be submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for urgent intervention and possible evacuation, in case the situation escalates further.

He added that the Association is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian Embassy in Tehran, and the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers’ Office. “All necessary preparations are being made to facilitate communication, ensure students’ safety, and press for timely evacuation if required,” Khuehami added.

Khuehami added that, Around 1,300 Kashmiri students are currently stranded in Iran, expressing deep fear and anxiety. Several students have reported hearing airstrike sirens, experiencing tremors, and witnessing heightened military activity in their surroundings. Some are located in cities where airstrikes have already occurred, leaving them frightened and helpless. Their families back home are extremely concerned and are urgently appealing for immediate action to ensure the safety of their children.

Munawar Mehraj, the National Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, stated, “We urge all Kashmiri students studying in Iran across both professional and non-professional courses to send their details immediately to our designated helpline numbers or scan the QR code circulated on our official channels. We are also in touch with universities and local authorities in Iran to track the well-being of our students.”

The Association has urged families in Kashmir to remain calm and assured them that every effort is being made to ensure the safety of their children. “We are closely monitoring the developments and will continue to update all stakeholders. The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority,” the statement added. (JKNS)
