Energy, passion and dynamism are the terms that we usually associate with youth. Youth are the most important and dynamic segment of any society. Saying that today’s youth is tomorrow’s innovator, builder. It has been proved that youth play a very indispensable role in development and building of any society, region or a country. It is said that when youth unites, they can change the direction of wind. They have the power to change the governments as well as old established un favourable systems whether they are political or social.
Kashmir, the paradise on earth has a present population of approx. 8.9 million, out of them 55 percent people are between the age group of 15 to 35 years. This brings a lot of youth force into the UT. This strength comprises of students, employees, day to day earning labours and farmers etc. Youth in all these sectors have the same energy and enthusiasm which we must nourish in the right direction for development and prosperity of Kashmir and the country as a whole.
.The Kashmiri youth who are adamant to bring the positive change in the mindset of the people for the sole purpose of peace and development. They are the main demographic entities that are to be influenced for bringing peace and harmony in Kashmir .The undivided, motivated and focused urban youth’s efforts cannot be neglected in the present days Kashmir. Even after facing all the atrocities of nature, administrative problems and several other issues. The students are making their mark in the field of academics and are competing shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts not only within the country but even internationally. This act and exposure of the students will go a long way in not just their individual growth or their family but they are also motivating the rest of the society too and are leaving a mark in the international forum about the progress and prosperity in the region .

The effort and the role of the youth would be incomplete without bringing out the example of Shah Faisal who later turned into a politician and is presently involved in decision making bodies of the valley, had qualified the prestigious Indian Civil Services exam in 2009. He had achieved this success inspite of all the atrocities on his family, his father was killed by millitants in Kupwara. Similar is the success story of Malik Kamila Mushtaq a resident of Srinagar who has achieved a goal and became a top successor of Kashmir Administrative Services in 2020
The growth and success that the youth of Kashmir has achieved in the spectrum of sports is not just astonishing but also acting as a role model for the youth of the entire country. The players from the valley are representing country in various sporting events. Efforts of government bodies and dedication of young players is paying dividends in promoting the local martial art. This has inspired a lot of young athletes and also helped in projecting the art form and the state both nationally and internationally. The efforts and contributions of the cricketers like Parveez Rasool Zarger and Manzoor Pandav who have represented their franchises in editions of Indian Premier League, but both of them Kashmiri players did not get enough chances to prove themselves.Parvez Rasool got one chance in IPL and being selected in national cricket team he didn’t play any international match, why. there may be hundreds of reasons but one of the most important reason is ignorance. As for as Manzoor Dar@ Pandav case is concerned the franchise took him in Kings XI Punjab against a mere amount of 20 lakh rupees. The then chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ms. Mehbooba Mufti and then Home Minister Raj Nath Sigh felicitated the said player.and after that he has been ignored by authorities and recently he said in an interview that [he is struggling hard to earn a living and the administration has totally ignored him and failed to provide a job despite promises and assurances.
Another sad example is this for Kashmir that when 8 years old Tajamul Islam became the youngest world champion in kick boxing event held at Itlay. How many Indian official recieved a world champion on arrival to India?[zero]…
No doubt the locals and the youth who are in the region have been worked hard to bring change in perception, socio-economic status and in society as a whole. With out support of the administration the youth have come up with many Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). They are adopting an advanced approach and are promoting the use of technology in farming and day to day life , thus focusing on development and growth at all fronts.
The role of youth in nation building is crucial. They are ambitious, positive and go getters. It is the right time to push in more involvement of youth into more important and responsible roles for Kashmir such as policy making. The administration needs to involve more and more with the younger generation and involve them into important decision making processes and also ensure good education. Empowering the youth will take the society in the path of development and prosperity.
