New Delhi: A day after the release of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah is convening a meeting at his residence for deliberating on the future course of action on ‘Gupkar Declaration’ at his residence at 4 pm today. Mufti has accepted the invitation to attend the meeting. Apart from NC and PDP, the parties that may join the meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories include Congress, Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference  and CPI(M) among others.

Addressing media persons, NC vice president Omar Abdullah said the PDP leader has accepted the invitation for the meeting of signatories to the Gupkar Declaration on Thursday. “She has kindly accepted Farooq sahib’s invitation to join a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories tomorrow afternoon,” Omar said.

Bharatiya Janata Party smells of a conspiracy against revocation of Article 370 ahead of the meeting. Reacting sharply to the called meeting, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder warned them of “serious consequences” for conspiring to “bleed Kashmir”.

“Farooq and his son Omar Abdullah met Mufti and discussed how to carry forward the Gupkar Agenda, which is the agenda of anti-national elements and an agenda of Pakistan. The people of J-K had nothing to do with this agenda,” he said.

What is Gupkar Declaration?

Gupkar Declaration is a resolution issued after an all-party meeting on August 4, 2019 at the Gupkar residence of the National Conference president Farooq Abdullah.  The resolution at the end of the meet on August 4, 2019, a day before the Centre announced its decision of revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and split it into two Union territories, said the parties unanimously resolved that they would be united in their effort to protect and defend the identity, autonomy and special status of Jammu and Kashmir against all attacks and onslaughts.
