DC Poonch Asked to Expedite DPRs for Bunker Construction in Border Areas

Poonch, June 17 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Poonch to immediately prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the construction of safety bunkers in vulnerable and shelling-affected areas of the district to ensure the safety of civilians.

In a formal communique from the Civil Secretariat, the Office of the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir has instructed the Deputy Commissioner Poonch to initiate immediate steps for the construction of safety bunkers in the vulnerable and shelling-affected areas of the district.

According to the communique from J&K Deputy Chief Minister’s office to DC Poonch, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS stated that the direction comes in response to a delegation led by Shri Ajaz Ahmad Jan, Hon’ble MLA Haveli Poonch, which met with the Deputy Chief Minister and expressed concern over the urgent requirement of safety bunkers for the protection of civilian lives and property in areas frequently targeted by cross-border shelling.

The recent incidents of shelling have severely impacted public life and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among residents in border areas.

“In view of the safety of the general public, it is requested that immediate steps be taken for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for construction of bunkers in the identified vulnerable locations without any delay,” the communique reads.

The directions follows a delegation led by MLA Ajaz Ahmad Jan, who highlighted the urgent need for protective structures after heavy shelling between May 7–10.

The said week saw escalated tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack which triggered intense tensions between India and Pakistan. (JKNS)
