New Delhi, June 18: In a heartwarming confluence of culture, language, and soul, Rubaroo Theatre, Delhi and Vijay Suri Foundation are set to present a remarkable Dogri play titled “Habba Khatoon”, bringing the lyrical legacy of Kashmir’s legendary mystic poetess to the capital stage. The play revolves around the life and spiritual essence of Habba Khatoon, a 16th-century Sufi poetess of Kashmir, often referred to as the ‘Nightingale of the Valley’. Through her verses, she became a symbol of love, longing, and resilience. Her poetry encapsulates the voice of a woman’s inner world, reflecting emotional depth, personal rebellion, and the pain of separation.

What makes this production truly unique is that none of the performers are native Dogri speakers. Yet, each artist has immersed themselves in the cadence, purity, and emotional richness of the Dogri language, treating it not just as dialogue but as a melodic expression of soul. Their performances go beyond linguistic barriers to create a profound spiritual connection with the audience.

The play will be staged on 22nd June 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Blank Canvas, LTG Auditorium, Mandi House, New Delhi. The entry is free, encouraging a diverse audience to experience this rare cultural offering.Set against the evocative backdrop of Kashmir’s landscapes, the performance will blend Dogri folk melodies, traditional costumes, and poetic narration to breathe life into the story of Habba Khatoon. More than a biographical representation, the play aims to deliver a universal message — that art transcends language, gender, and geography, forging connections from soul to soul.

This production is not only a celebration of a historical figure but also an ambitious attempt to introduce Dogri language and culture to newer audiences through the power of theatre. For theatre lovers and cultural enthusiasts, “Habba Khatoon” promises to be a soul-stirring experience — one that captures the fragrance of Kashmir and the lyrical agony of a poetess who still whispers through time.
