Baramulla, July 3 (JKNS): Body of a 13-Year old boy was retrieved on Thursday from river Jhelum at Jihama, Baramulla after Two-days of drowning.

An official told news agency JKNS that a young man identified as Arslan Mashook Sofi, son of Mashook Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Jihama Baramulla, drowned in the River Jhelum on Tuesday.

His body was recovered during night hours after it was found floating in the Jhelum near his native village, officials said.

Following the incident, Sopore Police issued a fresh public safety advisory urging residents, especially youth, to refrain from swimming or venturing near water bodies in view of rising temperatures and strong currents.

In a statement issued to the news agency JKNS, a police spokesperson said, “In view of the recent drowning incident and rising temperatures drawing youth toward rivers and streams, the public is strongly advised to avoid swimming in rivers, streams, or canals. Strong currents and sudden depth changes make them extremely dangerous.”

Police appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor children and restrict unsupervised movement near water bodies. “Avoid swimming under peer pressure or for recreation. Report any risky behavior near water bodies to the nearest police station or PCR Sopore at 9596773024,” the advisory reads.

“Let’s work together to prevent such tragedies and ensure a safe summer for all,” the statement reads. (JKNS)
