Rajouri, Aug 2 (JKNS): At least 40 passengers had a miraculous escape on Saturday after a bus skidded off the Rajouri–Poonch National Highway near Katarmal and came to a halt just feet away from plunging into a 300-foot-deep gorge.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the bus was en route from Manjakote to Rajouri when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer dangerously off the road. The bus eventually got stuck at the very edge of the highway, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy.
While some passengers sustained minor injuries in the mishap, prompt response from the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (Romeo Force), who were deployed nearby for area domination, ensured swift rescue and first aid. Army medics provided immediate assistance to around a dozen passengers on the spot.
Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident, and further investigation into the cause of the mishap is underway. (JKNS)
