Jammu, Aug 4 (JKNS): District Magistrate Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya (IAS), has ordered a blanket ban on the sale, purchase, storage, distribution, and display of motor vehicle accessories used for unauthorized modifications across the district, citing serious threats to public safety and roadworthiness.
An official order issued by DM Jammu as per news agency JKNS, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the prohibition includes oversized tyres, pressure horns, musical horns, metallic bumpers, high-intensity halogen lights, tinted or reflective window films, roof rail spoilers, modified exhausts, and similar fittings that alter original vehicle specifications in violation of Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The DM noted that despite enforcement action by Traffic Police, such accessories remain available in the market, contributing to illegal modifications, public nuisance, and endangering lives. “Immediate preventive measures are necessary to reduce road accidents and ensure public safety,” the order reads.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu and SSP Traffic Jammu have been directed to enforce the order strictly in coordination with field officers. A joint committee comprising tehsildars, SHOs, DTI officials, and RTO representatives will conduct periodic inspections and submit fortnightly compliance reports to the DM’s office.
Any individual, firm, or establishment found violating the order will face penal action under BNSS 2023 and the Motor Vehicles Act, while the unauthorized materials will be seized.
The order, effective immediately, will remain in force for eight weeks or until further orders. It will be widely publicized through print, electronic, and social media for public awareness. (JKNS)
