Kupwara, August 9, 2025 — In a groundbreaking moment for sports in North Kashmir, the Vajr Fencing Node in Kupwara—an initiative of the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna—successfully hosted its first-ever Inter-District Provincial Level Fencing Tournament, drawing enthusiastic participation and widespread acclaim.

Held under the aegis of the Khelo India Mission, the tournament saw 38 young fencers, including 28 boys and 10 girls from multiple districts, demonstrate exceptional skill, discipline, and competitive spirit in a state-of-the-art sporting environment. This landmark event marks a significant stride toward nurturing and showcasing the region’s athletic potential.

In the boys’ under-14 category:

Épée: Rahil Majeed Hari (Army Goodwill School Machal) – Gold

Foil: Mir Shafat Shafi (Army Goodwill School Raghwan) – Gold

Sabre: Azhar Ghulam – Gold

In the under-17 boys category:

Épée: Farooq Ahmed Lone (BHSS Dudi) – Gold

Foil: Abed Ahmed (BHSS Dudi) – Gold

Sabre: Danish Ahmed (BHSS Dudi) – Gold

The girls’ under-14 category saw impressive performances:

Foil: Fatima Bano – Gold
Sabre: Safiqa Bano_Gold

Army officials and District Sports dignitaries lauded the initiative, underscoring the exceptional talent displayed and the importance of such platforms in empowering youth. “The confidence, focus, and resilience shown by these young athletes is not only inspiring but also a powerful reminder of the untapped potential within our region,” one dignitary remarked.

The tournament concluded with a vibrant medal ceremony, proud families cheering, and a shared sense of pride and possibility. More than just a competition, the event served as a celebration of unity, perseverance, and the transformative power of sports.

With its successful debut, the Vajr Fencing Node has positioned Kupwara as a rising hub for sporting excellence, reaffirming the commitment to provide world-class opportunities for youth in even the remotest corners of the country.
