Srinagar, Aug 13 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi, on Wednesday said that full dress rehearsals for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations were successfully conducted in all districts of the Valley with both ceremonial and security drills completed smoothly.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, IGP Birdi as per news agency JKNS said, “Today, parades were held in every district as part of the full dress rehearsal for the August 15 functions. All contingents participated and the rehearsals went off successfully.”
He added that multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place for the main function in Srinagar, with contingents from J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces forming part of the deployment. “We have ensured smooth entry for the public. Residents should participate wholeheartedly and make the programme a success,” he said.
On the Akhal encounter in Kulgam, Birdi said it was in its final stage, and further updates would be shared after review. He also linked the recent infiltration attempt in Uri to an ongoing counter-insurgency operation.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri as per JKNS urged the public to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in large numbers, similar to last year. “Everyone has been invited just like last year. Despite the rain, there was a large turnout and the festive spirit was not dampened. I expect the same this year as well,” he said.
Bidhuri advised citizens to arrive early at the venue with their ID cards to ensure smooth entry and enjoy the arrangements. “Arrive early so you can get kehwa, sheermaal, and a seat,” he added.
The main event will be held at Bakhshi Stadium Srinagar, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside, and elaborate arrangements have been made for its smooth conduct. (JKNS)
