Kishtwar/Srinagar, Aug 16 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced separate measures of relief and rehabilitation for the victims of the devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar.
According to the Office of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah as per news agency JKNS, sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of ₹2 lakh from the CM’s Relief Fund for each deceased, ₹1 lakh for the severely injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries. For structural damages, ₹1 lakh was approved for fully damaged houses, ₹50,000 for severely damaged, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged structures.
“The assistance is aimed at providing immediate support to the affected families while rehabilitation and restoration will continue under close monitoring,” Omar Abdullah said during his visit to the cloudburst-hit areas. He directed officials to ensure timely disbursal of the aid.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the administration is committed to immediate relief and assured uninterrupted essential supplies for the victims. In a post on X, the Office of the LG J&K stated, “Spoke to senior officials and took stock of the rescue and relief operations at Chashoti, Kishtwar. I will ensure the reconstruction of homes damaged in flash floods. I’ve also directed the senior officials for immediate relief & uninterrupted essential supplies to the affected.”
Rescue and relief operations are being carried out jointly by the Army, police, SDRF, and district administration. Authorities reiterated that every possible measure is being taken to support the victims of the natural disaster. (JKNS)
