Srinagar, Oct 21: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Wednesday said that 40 security forces personnel including 13 cops were killed this year in line of duty in the UT.

Addressing the police commemoration day at Zewan in Srinagar, the DGP said that in total 6000 policemen lost their lives fighting militancy. “From September 1, 2019 to October 31 2020, 13 police men and 27 other security forces personnel were killed in militancy and other violence related incidents. The recent causality is that of an inspector Muhammad Ashraf of Anantnag,” the DGP said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). From police alone, 13 cops lost their lives in line of duty.

He said police commemoration day is being observed since October 21, 1959 when ten CRPF men lost their lives fighting Chinese forces in Ladakh. He said families of police martyrs are being provided with the due compensation and morale the next of kin of slain cops is high. “I met the family members of slain inspector Muhammad Ashraf and his daughter told me that she wants to keep the mission of her father alive,” the J&K Police chief said. He said that police are committed to bring normalcy in J&K and are working professionally on all fronts.

He paid homage to all 40 security forces personnel including 13 cops killed this year and those killed the past 30 years of strife in Kashmir—(KNO)
