Srinagar, Aug 18 (JKNS): Residents of Lachmanpora area in Batmaloo on Monday staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department over what they termed as a “severe water crisis.”
Eyewitnesses told news agency JKNS that the protesters blocked the road, leading to disruption of the traffic movement for some time. “We have been suffering for weeks without proper drinking water. Despite repeated pleas, nothing has been done,” a local resident said.
Another protester alleged that the shortage has forced people to fetch water from far-off places. “It is women and children who are the worst affected. Authorities are unmoved by our hardships,” he remarked.
The demonstrators demanded immediate intervention from senior officials to restore water supply in the area. “We will be left with no option but to intensify our protest if our genuine demand is ignored,” they warned. (JKNS)
