Srinagar, Aug 19 (JKNS): In a shocking revelation in the Ganderbal girl’s murder case that shook the Kashmir Valley, police on Tuesday said the crime was committed by her own elder sister, who later confessed during sustained interrogation.
SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, while briefing reporters as per news agency JKNS, said the case came to light yesterday after the recovery of a girl’s body near the Batsar–Sehpora road. “We registered an FIR at Police Station Kheer Bhawani and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Forensic experts from Srinagar were also called to the spot for scientific examination,” he said.
The SSP said that initial suspicions of kidnapping and external involvement were ruled out after detailed investigation. “CCTV footage and forensic evidence pointed towards the victim’s elder sister. Bloodstained clothes recovered from a relative’s house and hair strands of the accused found in the deceased’s hands confirmed her role,” Poswal said.
He added that the elder sister initially attempted to mislead investigators but later broke down during questioning. “She admitted that both sisters had gone to their land, where a scuffle broke out. In a fit of rage, she struck her younger sister with an iron rod. The first blow left her unconscious, and fearing she had committed a crime, she struck again, causing her sister’s death on the spot,” he revealed.
Ruling out any love affair angle, SSP Poswal said the murder was the result of a sudden quarrel between the siblings. “The accused has been arrested, the case stands solved, and further legal proceedings are underway,” he added.—(JKNS)
